How To Do Proper Market Research

How To Do Proper Market ResearchThere are many ways to make a living online. But no matter which route you choose, it all begins with market research. You have to find a group of buyers who have a common problem or need. Then all you need to do is sell them things that solve the problem or meet the need.

Market research can be divided into two parts – finding a profitable niche and finding long tail keywords within that niche. The good news is that there are many free tools available to do this. Some of the best tools are provided by Google itself. So the first thing to do is sign up for an account with Google. Once you have done that, go to Google’s Search-Based Keyword Tool. Type in the words ‘buy, purchase, order, get’ (without quotation marks) into the search field. The Search-Based Keyword Tool will list out 800 words or terms that contain these buying keywords together with other useful data like level of competition, searches per month etc. All you have to do is choose the term that you feel is most suitable for yourself, preferably one that has at least 2,500 searches per month.

Next, click on the icon that looks like a magnifying glass next to the search term that you have chosen. This will take you to Google Insights for Search, another free tool from Google. It will automatically search the term that you have chosen and produce the relevant data at Google insights. Scroll down to the bottom part of the page and you will see other related search terms. Take note of all the related search terms that you find.

Now you would have about 10 buying keyword terms in a particular niche. This basically indicates that there are people searching for information to solve a problem or meet a need in this niche. Next, you should investigate further into how big a market this niche is and get more keyword ideas.

Go to amazon.com, ebay.com, magazines.com and clickbank.com. Put the main keyword of the niche into the search field and see if there are products that are listed in these websites within this niche. Chances are you will find products in all these websites pertaining to your niche. Briefly review some of the products for ideas – both keyword ideas and product ideas. The next step is to find long tail keywords.

To do this, go to Google’s External Keyword Tool. Type in your 10 keywords and it will generate a list of related keywords. Take note of the keyword phrases with at least 3 words in them (long tail keywords) and that produce at least 2,500 searches per month.

Now go to the Google and type in the main keyword in quotation marks. As you are typing, Google will give you related search terms. Take note of the long tail keywords. Once you hit the search button, Google will list out all the websites related to your keyword (this is called the SERP or Search Engine Results Page). Take note of the number of websites listed (it is listed at the top right hand corner of the page). You are aiming for keywords with a maximum of 1,000,000 websites. If it is significantly higher than 1 million, then the keyword is too competitive. Do the same thing with each of the keywords that you have and choose those which have less than 1 million competing websites.

For each of the keywords you type into Google, look at the bottom of the SERP and you will find more suggested related keywords. Click on them and you will find even more keywords. Drill down into the keywords as deeply as you can until you find long tail keywords with less than 1 million competing websites.

If you have done your market research well enough, you will now have identified a niche with ready buyers and the long tail keywords (about 10 will do) they use to search in the search engine for information on a product to buy.

How Do You Find The Right Blueprint?

So why do the vast majority of online marketers make either no money or very little? Why do most give up in disgust, believing the Internet to be a scam?

Is the Internet a scam? Do the gurus fail to tell the whole truth? Do they do it on purpose? Why is it that the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer?

Is the Internet a case of whom you know, and not what you know? If you are a beginner, how do you get started? How do you get the expertise to become an authority?

Not everyone has the ability for sales. Not everyone can be a writer. Not everyone understands computers enough to build a Website.

Then there is advertising. Which way works the best? Why do some things work for some people, but when you try, they do not work at all?

Have you tried traffic exchanges, spending hours building credits, but then get no results? What did you do wrong? Did you have the wrong product, or the wrong Website, or something else?

The same thing can happen with email marketing. You send thousands of email, and very few even get looked at.

So, what is the best way to make money online? Make and sell your own product. Be an affiliate and sell someone else’s product. No matter what, it comes down to selling something.

How do you sell, if selling is not something you are good at? Even if you have the right product, how do you get your product in front of the people who want to buy it?

The easiest way is to follow a step by step plan, but how do you find the right one? The plan that works for one, will not necessarily work others.

Everyone is different. Each person has different desires, different gifts, different temperaments, different work habits. The people who make money online, sometimes are in the right place at the right time, but most know what they want, and they will not stop until they make it happen.

If you read the stories of the ones who make the most money, their stories seem to read the same. They work long hours, spend much money, and do not give up.

Do you want to make money online? Find someone who you can trust, and follow what they do. Do not listen to what they say as much as watch what they do.

Be prepared to work hard, invest some money, and do not ever give up.

Free Web Hosting – Is It Really Worth It?

Free web hosting, as with so many things in life that looks good from far but is actually far from good, is not something any serious marketer can bank on.

Most free web hosting companies will give you exactly what you paid for using their services – Nothing!

The Eight Main Problems with Free Web Hosting are:

  1. Sponsored Advertising – In return for free web hosting some service providers will place banner ads on your site. Would you feel like buying from a site that has a huge banner saying “This site is hosted for free thanks to…”? No, didn’t think so.
  2. Lack of Credibility – Establishing credibility on the internet is one of the most important but also most difficult things you need to achieve. Many people can spot a free hosted website a mile away. In addition, companies such as ClickBank will not even allow you to use their services if you are making use of free web hosting services.
  3. Inadequate Features – Most hosting service providers will provide you with a comparison chart indicating the features of each package. You will notice that a free web hosting account normally only has a very small number of features compared with paid hosting plans.
  4. Long & Unsightly Domain Name – Some companies do not even give you the opportunity of using your own domain name. Instead you get an address such as freebyhost/sucker.com where “freebyhost” is the name of the host and “sucker” is your domain!
  5. Slow Speed – It has been proven that most people expect a web page to open just about immediately or they click away… Free web hosting services do not exactly have an excellent reputation for using fast and efficient servers.
  6. Poor Support – Have a problem with your account? No problem, just go and stand in the back of the line while the paid members get looked after first. Don’t expect world-class service when you are not prepared to pay a dime for it.
  7. Server Problems – Getting traffic to your site is not always easy. Imagine spending a lot of time (and often money as well) getting traffic and when they get to your site the server is down for maintenance or something more serious.
  8. Unfavorable Terms & Conditions – Some of the better free web hosting companies such as Doteasy.com offers a reasonable hosting option but you have to buy a domain name through them or transfer an existing name or account to them. Often the domain name will cost you a lot more than what you would pay for it at another registrar. Transferring an existing domain name or hosting account to them is not cheap either…

Are there any advantages to using free web hosting services?

Not as far as I am concerned. I have never come across an internet marketer that recommended free hosting over using paid hosting providers.

To be frank, hosting has become so cheap in recent years that you can find excellent hosting packages for only a couple of dollars per month. Many companies will even host several domains on one package at no extra cost.

Personally, I use and recommend HostGator. For as little as $7.95 per month they will host an unlimited number of websites for you on one account, subject to some restrictions. Their support is great and they offer excellent tools for webmasters. I have been using them for several years and have never had a complaint.

Tip: You can try HostGator out for $0.01 your first month by entering this coupon code upon entering the order page: hgc25

How To Plan A Strategic Marketing Campaign

I want to thank everyone who sent me an email and posted their comments on the last post I made in this blog…

Today, I want to address the topic of planning a strategic marketing campaign.

If you want to go hunting you have to know what you are going to hunt. Strategic marketing planning will help you find out what customers you are looking for and how to catch them. Essential to any marketing campaign is finding and knowing your target audience. Knowing your target audience doesn’t just mean identifying who they are but getting to know how they think and what they want and where to find them. After you know them you can  find ways to catch them. The better you know them, the better your chances are at getting to them before your competition does.

Selecting your target market is only the beginning but it is a very important beginning. It is best to go after customers that you have some knowledge about and have a legitimate chance of getting with what you have available. While a BB gun might be enough to take down a small bird, you wouldn’t want to try it on a grizzly bear. Use what you have at your disposal and use it on those you have a legitimate opportunity to be successful with. Choose a target audience whose needs you can meet. There is no shame in starting small. Use that audience to learn with and prepare for bigger targets. Many people choose to work exclusively with small markets and do quite well.

There are several factors to consider when getting to know your target audience and planning a strategic marketing campaign to go after them. You will want to know as much about their demographics as possible. Pay attention to things like their age, sex, race or ethnicity, education, income,  family size, or any other factor that can have an impact on their buying behaviors. Don’t believe that you are being racist or buying into stereotypes when you do this. Every demographic group has   behaviors that are special to them, even though they may be subtle. Do your best to notice what those behaviors are and cater to them.

Knowing your target audience is incredibly important for anyone planning for a successful strategic marketing plan because it is how they use that knowledge to their benefit that will separate themselves from their competition. All of that knowledge is going to give you insight into how to meet the needs of those future customers of yours.

In planning your strategic marketing campaign you need to know how the other elements of your marketing mix will work together to meet the needs of your target market. The other areas to take into consideration will be things like the particular product or service you want to offer, your method of distribution, your promotions, and the price. The better your knowledge is of your market, the better your ability will be to find a mix that will have an advantage over your competitors.
