I’ve been receiving a lot of emails from my subscribers asking me how to participate in JV giveaways. But I won’t bore you here with long details about how to participate in JV giveaways since it’s pretty self-explanatory. All you need to do is signup through giveaway sites like the one below:

Now, if you are already participating in giveaway events as a contributor, this blog post is targeted to you!
Do you know that there are several ways to increase the signups that you get from JV giveaways, especially from huge events like the Easter JV Giveaway 2010?
In this blog post, I’ve listed 5 tested and proven ways to increase your signup conversions in JV giveaway events. Let’s get started, then…
The first and obvious one is to upgrade your contributor account. By upgrading, you could automatically add additional points to your account which will cause your gift to get a more higher ranking in JV giveaways. This is especially highly recommended if you don’t know how to promote a giveaway site yet and you are unable to recruit new members to join under you. (Please note that most giveaway events will downgrade your account if you don’t have any number of referrals.)
However, you also need to be fully aware that the points that you have is not the only factor of success with JV giveaways. Sure, it can help you get good rankings for your gift, but it would be pointless if your gift has no demand that people wouldn’t even bother looking at it. Which brings me to my next point…
Make sure that your gift has a huge demand. Some people concentrate too much on promoting the giveaway event in order for them to get more points, which in return, will push their gifts to higher rankings. But those same people, most of the time, receive lesser click-throughs than those that has only a few points on their accounts. Here’s a recent screenshot I’ve taken from Easter JV Giveaway 2010′s stats:

As you can see in the screenshot above, there are always a bunch of gifts in a certain JV giveaway event that really don’t receive much attention from visitors. That is not always the case, though. Of course, you can always assume that some gifts were submitted later than the others that’s why they haven’t gotten a lot of signup clicks yet.
But on the other hand, if you have a gift that people are really interested in, you should have no problem getting many signup clicks in spite of having the lowest point in your account and low gift ranking.

So the question is…
How do you know if your product is something that people would want to have?
It’s really simple. You see, success leaves footprints, right?
Now, do me a small favor!
If you’ve been giveaway marketing for sometime now, I urge you to go ahead and log into one of the JV giveaway events you’ve already joined in the past, go to the gifts stats section where you can see all of the gifts that were submitted, their rankings and how many clicks they’ve got. Try to look beyond the 100th rank and search for all the gifts that received lots of click-throughs despite their low rankings.
Here’s an example from the previous JV giveaway event I’ve joined:

As you can see in the image above, the guy that was giving away the 20 header images received way more clicks than the others within the same rank as his. His gift actually outdid some of the gifts that were above him at the time.
I’m not saying though that you should start giving away header graphics from now on. Of course, it’s a vital step to take your time in finding the products that has already well-performed, and there are tons of them.
What you need to do next is to replicate what’s already getting lots of attention from people. Produce similar kinds of gifts that successful contributors are giving away. It doesn’t need to be the same, but similar products.
Here’s the bottom line, if you have a killer free product that people wants, combine that with the high points (equals high ranking) that you get through upgrading your account… you will have no problem getting lots of signups to your mailing list!
Now, let’s move on to the next tip…
Another way to increase signup conversions is by writing a good title and description for your gift. I suppose that you already know this but here’s the thing…
I noticed that there are many people who ONLY put the name of their products on their gift title. It’s OK and I definitely have no problem with that!
But in my experience, if your gift is not unique at all and you have no good-looking ecover for it, mmm… it won’t be able to produce good results for you!
A much better approach to this is by putting some kind of a headline just like you would do in sales letters.
Instead of the good ‘ol and boring title like “Twitter Marketing Secrets” – why not create something eye-catching and unique like: “Twitter Marketers LAUGHED At Me… Until I Told Them These Secrets.. !” or something similar (you get the idea!)…
Only a few people do this, but after I tried implementing this method to all my gifts I experienced a sudden increase in my click-throughs.
Of course, the headline example I’ve given above is just that, an example. Something that popped out of my head after 30 seconds of thinking. I’m sure you could do better than that!
My point though is to take advantage of the title area of your gift. Make them wonder what’s inside and make it something that people wouldn’t be contented without clicking on the “Get This Gift!” button.
In the description part, you could simply write what your product is all about and what it can do for them. And finally, put a short message to take action. Here’s an example from one of the products that I’m giving away:

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve also inserted a “sense of urgency” phrase and capitalized some important words in my description. That’s just my style! You can decide whether to apply that strategy in your own gifts or not. But as always, don’t forget to test and track your results, look at what other successful contributors in the field are doing and use them for your own advantage.
Now let’s move on to the final tip!
Have an eye-catching ecover for your gift.
People REALLY do judge the book by its cover in spite of what others want us to believe. Especially in the world of JV giveaways, people don’t have much time to read every title and description for each product so what they usually do is skim every page until they find something that catches the eye, they read its title and description, and if it’s something that interests them, they go and download the product.
Good-Looking eCover = (assumed to be) Good Product.
Create a good-looking graphics for your product or if you don’t know how to create one, you can simply outsource it through sites like eLance, RentACoder, etc. In fact, you could have someone create just an ecover for you at around $15.
Another place to find good ecover designers that charge a really affordable price is the Warriors Forum. There’s a section in the forum called “Warrior Products & Services” where you can find tons of graphic designers that offer their services for only pennies on the dollar. You can save a lot by hiring them.
If you combine all the tips that I’ve shared with you in this article, you surely can dramatically increase your signup conversions from JV giveaways.
Just don’t forget to ALWAYS test and track your results to know which performs the best for you.
So, to recap, here are the 5 tested & proven ways to get more signups through JV giveaways:
- Upgrade your contributor account.
- Offer free products that already has a demand.
- Write a killer title for your products.
- Write the benefits of your product and a short message to take action at the description area.
- Create (or have someone create for you) an eye-catching ecover for your product.
I hope you have learned something from this article.
